Brochure Design - Music Production Academy 'Summer Course'

The past 2 weeks were quite busy. Designing a whole lot for the Music Production Academy and working nightshifts beside that, doesn't leave much time to write a new blog haha.

Today I was able to publish a new project to Issuu: After the 'Bewijzenmap' project for designschool in 2015, now the Summer Course Brochure is out. All designed by me!

Got to get preparing for the The Loods Jam this saturday, so I keep it short this time. The brochure is written in Dutch, check it out below. Don't be afraid to read it fullscreen!

Music Production Academy presents: The Summer Course

You may recognise the name Music Production Academy (or shortly 'MPA'), because I have been working with them for over an year already. Started as an intern at the music school in Rotterdam, and worked myself up to a fully respected graphic designer. I am responsible for most of their banner work, poster work and their business cards.

Most of the time, there is a strict branding we have to follow. But for this particular instance, I created the banner for the Ableton Summer Course - Almost totally up to my own taste.

Compare it to the other banner I made for (another) upcoming Ableton Course. You'll spot the differences. The icon box has been moved to the left, and is now filled with 'Sunny Beach Blue'. Together with the repositioning of the other elements, it refreshes the whole thing. Nice.

Commission - The Ropana.nl Website Design

Wait.. So you also create websites for clients?

As you may have read on the official Seck Design website, the Ropana.nl website was released last week. I understand you are curious right now, because this is the first webdesign for a client ever, made by me. What is it all about?

We’ve added the domain.. Whats next?

From buying a domain name, to getting the website to work in WordPress, adding photos, text and forms, videos… It may be a bit overwhelming if you never build a website before. The internet is getting more important to your brand than ever before though.

Seck Design is capable of helping you with all of that. I can make a logo, business card, flyer design, but we could also update your Facebook page or create a website meeting your needs. All will happen when you are doing other important things for your business.

What it has to do with this website

When you see ropana.nl at first glance, you can easily spot the focus: Business related. Interaction with the customer is minimal, and the website offers a whole lot of information about the company.

There are a couple of pages which are worth mentioning though. The ‘Partners’ page is protected with an password. On the contact page you’ll find a fillable form. On the partners page, the logo’s of some of the collegues of Ropana are displayed.

Okay... what is this going to cost?

The Honing Tripel Beerlabel Design

The beer label I created back in 2012

..for my uncle's homebrew beer 'Honing Tripel'. A heavy hopped blonde beer with a touch of honey, to dream away with on a saturday evening. This is as short as I could describe it. My whole family consists of beer lovers, and with the knowledge my uncle has from his years as a medicine maker, he started brewing specialty beers way before I was born.

This whole story intrigues me to this day. The way he chooses his hop, the way he writes down his recipe, the way he drinks his beer & refines those recipes, again and again. The passion is just always there. That is why, back in 2012 after a year in design school, the creative me decided to get into Photoshop and Illustrator to create the best beer label I had ever seen. I wanted to show him I got the same passion, but in an other profession.

2017 - Turning the old design into something new

But... After almost 5 years, finishing design school, the brewery getting the name Anselmus & me starting Seck Design, I felt that the old design from 2012 was becoming outdated. I got out of bed at 4 am midnight, and started building the whole thing up once again - from scratch.

What I heard in school a lot (and what you can easily see in my older work) was that my artwork was way overpowered. 'Less is more' is what they told me. And when I open one of my older artbooks or look at older work, I cannot deny it. I learned a lot from that one sentence.

This quest is to be continued. We need to find an appropriate printing method for the new design, because it is transparent. Interesting.

This is a concept we are working on. A mock up is shown below, with the old design (left) and the new one (right).

Leather Business Card Design - Pahana

New business card design for Pahana Design, a start up designing leather products. Clean design at the front side, with a logo based on the cardinal direction 'Pahana' symbol. Brown with a little touch of red in the background.

On the other side there is a little stitch to be seen at the left of the business card, which is based on the typical leather stitching, often to be seen in car seats. Text is aligned right to keep it readable and simple to navigate through.

How I did the Branding Design for the Music Production Academy

Long time no see guys. I've been a busy guy, with new stuff for the Music Production Academy and a lot more. My focus is more on Graphic Design than drawings lately.

I have the honour to call myself a part of the MPA team from now on. Good news! There is coming much more material from this collaboration. After a diploma design, business cards, facebook banners, a book is being in the making together with new posters, flyers and a lot more.

Logo Design - Ropana.nl

This post is about a restyle I've done for Ropana.nl. Ropana is a company based in the Rotterdam region who creates a safe environment to work in. Their slogan is 'Veiligheid & Toezicht', which translates to 'Safety & Supervision'. The company frequently works with the RET, the company who is responsible for the Rotterdam Subway net.

With this in mind I started restyling the logo, as pictured below. My aim is to use an emblem for this logo; Because the old logo design didn't have one, and also to create a recognisable branding. If there is one thing the supervising people in this business are famous for, it would be their safety vest. In combination with a more fitting font and a little safety badge, the new logo is made.

Now for sale! The new Seck Design 'Paint the way you Print' T Shirts

As you may have spotted, I have a new slogan on top of the website; 'Paint the way you Print'. Because that is basically what I do; I like to have every line as crisp as possible when I paint / sketch something. I try to get most of my inspiration from typefaces, and other graphic design works.

With this new slogan, I made an illustration and uploaded it to my new SpreadShirt-Shop about a week ago. But I am not the guy to just go out and promote this new design printed by a third party, without testing the quality of the shirts with my own hands.

That is why I've decided to wait, and upload this in a new 'review' type of post. I will add my opinion after wearing in a couple of weeks. Pictures below, thanks to Alex Eduarda for being my model and Jeanet Gezmen for the pictures!

Diploma Design - Music Production Academy

Due to exams and a busy school period, my freelance graphic design work has been in a lower state lately. Mostly banners were created, a few uploaded here. My graffiti sketching has been a point of interest lately; Due to a loosened up school schedule, I have a lot of spare time to fill with hobby work. Painting twice a week it is.

Me and the Music Production Academy still had a mighty project going on in the background, though: the MPA Certificates and Diploma's. A nice way to implement my MPA Pattern!

Another nice touch is the icon on the top; Made by me. Through the process the MPA team gave me some really good constructive feedback, to even make it better. That's what I call a 'pleasant work relationship'. Thank you guys!

BUSINESS CARDS PART II - SHIPWRECKED AUDIO

It has been more than a month since the last Graphic Design update.. So I'm kinda proud to upload a new business card.

I've did some work for Shipwrecked in the past, but Jordy got a new logo design done. Really refreshing, but that means there got to be a new business card. We decided that the logo came out best in the portrait version, so we got it printed that way. Enjoy!

Free Font Download! 'Cubik Regular' 2016

Seck Design proudly presents... Cubik!

At this exact moment when I am writing this post, we only have a little less than 500 pageviews left to hit the 50.000. As usual, I want to give you some sort of present. This time it is the Cubik Regular font I've made, available for download from 1001Fonts, Dafont and FontSpace!

The Font

The story behind the name of this font, is pretty obvious really.. Cubik is made out of the basic building blocks to create letters, created with circles, triangles and of course, cubes.

The font has a capital letter set, the digits 0-9, an exclam, peroid, questionmark, comma, and hyphen. Perfect for typographical posters, or other graphic design illustrations!

Canvas Painting Sold! 'Abstract Dimensions' 2016

It's been a long time that I've did a real canvas painting. This one is totally different; It is more abstract than I have ever been with my paintings. Though 60 x 80 centimeters is a handable size, there is a lot going on. What it is, is up to the viewer.

It will be the best if it is seen on a distance between 5 and 10 m. Try to focus at the center and you'll be suprised: The black center line will dissolve!

Like my other painting 'Color Cape' from 2013, everything is freehand. I love to work without any rulers, because this way I can practice both my linework, and make my paintings more 'handmade'. The base coat is spraypaint.

GRAFISCH LYCEUM ROTTERDAM - BEWIJZENMAP

Mijn stageperiodes in een boekje.

First of all, sorry for my readers abroad; because this post is about a school related design, I decided to write in Dutch for this particular post. Upcoming posts will be all English again!

Opleiding Mediavormgeven Grafisch - Grafisch Lyceum Rotterdam

Verspreid over het jaar 2015 heb ik, verdeeld over 2 stageperiodes, in totaal 9 maanden stage gelopen. De laatste stageperiode loopt tegen zijn einde.. Natuurlijk heb ik in de afgelopen vier jaar veel geleerd, en veel mooie dingen gemaakt. Heel veel, welteverstaan. Het bleek een hele opgave om alle mooie dingen in 1 boekje samen te voegen.

Voor de mensen die dit lezen en nog met de stages moeten beginnen, wat je kan verwachten is dat je een hele hoop bijleert over hoe dingen in de praktijk gaan. Dat zijn meestal leuke dingen, complimentjes, maar soms moet je je ook aanpassen aan de zogenaamde bedrijfscultuur.

Het resultaat is te zien hieronder. Voor elke 'kerntaak' heb ik een aparte kleur gekozen, en alle kerntaken bij elkaar is het totale ontwerpproces; van het overleggen en het maken van concepten, tot aan de administratie en promotie achteraf.

Facebook Banner Design for Music Production Academy in Rotterdam

At the Music Production Academy internship, we made up a promotion plan together with Rick, OB and Michael. As you may have already seen the MPA Comics, they are also part of the plan to get our next project(s) more in the spotlights.

Like all business projects, MPA stands or falls with a good branding. I began with creating a pattern for the background, and with the other branding equipment from OB, and the plan Rick made, we got a steady banner scheme for the next months.

This post will be updated regularly with new elements and things.
